Horsemanship Training for Individuals & Trainers
No matter your level of expertise, our hands-on training will guide you in the art of Gentle Persuasion, the John Lyons method of horse training that is rooted in the belief that the most effective and enriching ways of instruction lie not in the traditional way of forcing a horse into submission, but rather in a humane, respectful method of conditioned response training and developing a partnership between you and the horse. By applying the theory and practice of gentle persuasion horsemanship you can learn to recognize, handle and change unwanted behavior so you can feel and be safe around and/or on your horse or zebra in any situation. You will leave with knowledge, confidence and inspiration. You can learn to prepare for pleasure or performance in any riding style and at all levels.

MORE INFO
Whether you are looking to train your own horse or to start a career as a horse trainer, we offer a variety of comprehensive
courses that will enable you to reach your goal. No matter what your level of expertise, our hands-on training will guide you in the art of Gentle Persuasion, the John Lyons method of horse training
that is rooted in the belief that the most effective and enriching ways of instruction lie not in the traditional way of forcing a horse into submission, but rather in a humane, respectful method of
conditioned response training and developing a partnership between you and the horse.
If you enjoy the company of horses, it's not hard to imagine the level of fulfillment that comes from a career as a trainer. Not only will it provide you with a way to pursue your passion
professionally, but our students from Holland, Spain, Austria, Germany, Scotland, France and Costa Rica will attest to the great demand for this type of training not only in the USA, but in other
countries as well.
Courses run anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 weeks, depending on your goals and your desired level of involvement. Our most
comprehensive course is the 4-week certification. Our most complete training program, the 4-week certification course encompasses instruction with both an unbroken horse and one already broke. You
will start at the very beginning, learning to work with a horse that knows absolutely nothing, and work your way through every imaginable problem that may arise, culminated with you working with
broke horses, and the problems that may come about at that level. Also offered are 2, 4 and 6-week courses, utilizing the same concepts and theories, but covering less ground than the comprehensive 4
week course. You also have the option of starting with one of the shorter courses, and returning for further training at a later date.
Our final program is the Apprentice Program. Enrollment is by selection only, and entails a four-month commitment during which you'll learn all the training involved in the 4 week certification
course, as well as giving you the opportunity to pay your tuition by working on the ranch. You will work on horses that are in for training, and will learn by doing all the hands-on details that go
into the care and maintenance of healthy horses. Among other things, you will feed, bathe, and care for the horses, as well as learning stall maintenance, and you will not be required to bring any
horse to the ranch for the course.
No matter what your needs are, we can recommend a course that would be right for you. And know that whichever course you do decide on, you will learn to apply all ground work to under-saddle. None of
the training is specific to any particular discipline of riding; all of our training can be applied to any discipline.
Please be aware that for all programs you are responsible for your room, board, and transportation, and there is a boarding fee for each horse. You are also welcome to bring one or two of your own horses, but you will be responsible for feeding and caring of your horse, as well as for your stalls. Arrangements can be made for full board.
